CONTEST SPONSORS

First and foremost we are here to support the students and the faculty.  If you are not in good physical condition we will find a replacement for you.  You will be needed for a wide assortment of things that include lifting heavy equipment to load and unload the band truck.  You will be standing for long hours and during band trips and contest you will be expected to be at your appointed place before the students arrive and not leave until they are all finished.  Remember we support one of the BEST bands in the nation.

 ·         Be sure to get you sponsor button and wear at all times.  This helps you get in the gate at events and helps the students identify who the sponsors are.

·         Help load equipment, drinks, water, etc., from the band room.

·         Help load food from the band room.

·         Help with passing uniforms out when needed.  Make sure all students have their instruments, shoes, uniform, gloves, flags, etc., before leaving the band room.  Ask the students before the buses leave if they have all of the above items.

·         Make a list of who is on your bus so that you have everyone on the return trip.

·         Make sure the students follow the rules the bus driver sets before them.  Let them have fun but don’t let them break the bus driver’s rules.  Put trash bags in several spots on your bus so that the students will have a place to throw away their trash.

·         You will need to help load/unload the pit trailer.

·         Help with the food set-up line and serve the students the food after the contest.

·         One sponsor needs to carry the first aid kit (big red bag) to the contest during our performance and be visible if they need first aide.  (Trash bags should be in the first aide kit)  For contest there are blue back packs that are smaller first aide kits that need to be on the buses.    There should be one on each bus.  Make sure you have one on your bus.

·         Be available to help the students to get ready for the performance.  Help with zippers etc. on band uniforms.

·         Make sure the students have on the appropriate clothing when changing clothes in the band room.  (ie. Boxer shorts and T-shirts are to be worn at all times).  There should be underwear under the boxers (male and female).  Females should have on a sports bra.  For contest they should be wearing dark boxers and dark underwear.

·         No band member should have food, candy, and soft drinks before a performance, or while in uniform.

·         No jewelry of any kind allowed during performances.

·         A few of the sponsors should follow the band through their warm-up.  There is a wagon that water bottles can be carried in to give them a drink when they have a free moment.  The person with the wagon can also carry the red first aide kit on the wagon.

·         We usually eat after the performance.  (Remember to help with serving in the food line.)

·         Make sure at least one sponsor stays on the bus upon returning to make sure everything has been removed from the bus and the bus is cleaned.  All the band members should be reminded to throw their trash away upon exiting the bus.

·         Upon return to the band room, help unload all trucks and help with the return of the uniforms if needed.  The band members should also help unload.  Once everything is done everyone can leave.
